Why am I finding it so hard to get credit

Hi all

I am new to this credit thing I've always avoided credit cards in the past yet I'm finding increasingly a good credit score is important so I am looking to get a basic credit card to help build a score.

I've checked my credit report and there appears to be no obvious signs of problems in fact my experian credit report says I have a "good" credit score (low 900s) yet I am struggling to get credit anywhere even with Cards that are designed for lower credit scores

Is it just a case of no real credit history?
