Barclaycard compromised
I just got an automated call from barclaycard which basically just said:
"Your barclaycard has been compromised and has now been cancelled. We are sending out a new card with a new number".
I rang their fraud department to check, as this sounded a bit odd - I'm used to the regular automated calls which basically say "Do you recognise the following transactions?", but this was different.
The fraud department told me that they had detected a number of credit card details had been hacked, and that they believed my card was one of those, and that they had to cancel my card.
It's a bit odd, as I don't use the card for anything "dodgy", and while I do use it online, I only use it with reputable merchants. I've not made any change in my purchase habits, and there are no unrecognised or missing transactions on my statements.
I was just a bit curious as to what was going on. I'm guessing that it probably wasn't barclaycard themselves that were hacked, but possibly a merchant was hacked. Obviously, I'd like to know to see if I messed up, but barclaycard were keeping their lips tightly sealed.

Round the World Rewards Card
Hi All,
I've been doing some research and I think I have picked the best card for my circumstances.
Basically, come March, I will be travelling the world for 12 months with my GF, doing the good old RTW airline ticket which will cost in total roughly £3000. This is great as it hits many a card's "spend X amount, get X amount of points".
I was looking through the ones advised by this site and thought the BA premium card looked good. However, when I added in all the extra costs of backpackers insurance (£250 lowest price I could find), the costs started to escalate quite quickly.
I then discovered the AMEX Platinum (can't post links as a new user, just google it).
This does have a whopping £450 annual fee, but the benefits seem to be pretty comprehensive enough for us to warrant the cost. Worldwide (including winter sports which is a must for NZ) travel insurance valid for 365 consecutive days (so covers gap year type things) for both my and my partner, plus unlimited access to 700 VIP lounges at airports (which admittedly is a luxury but one we were going to fork out £65 each or so on a special card which gives access). There's also 30,000 membership points which I can transfer to other points reward schemes such as AVIOS, to redeem flight upgrades etc.
So the question is... I meet all the eligibility criteria, but I can't find things like foreign currency rates etc. Is this a good card to purchase my flights on, and spend up until I go; at which point I start using a dedicated travel card which has 0% on cash withdrawls etc. Or should I forget the whole thing and just buy it all separately?
Kind regards,
T4

Credit cards from Ocean Finance & Luma, powered by Capital One?
Hi all
I had a credit card with capital one which I defaulted on in 2012, which is still being repaid each month.
Having looked at both Ocean and Luma cards, they're both Capital One cards behind the scenes. I applied for a Luma card around 9 months ago and was refused.
Will I not be able to apply for any cards with Capital One behind the scenes?

Anyone else noticed Amazon Prime showing up
on their credit card?
Just noticed this:
RECURRENT TRANSACTION 080-xxxxxxxxxxx Amazon Prime £79.00
on my card which is linked to my Amazon account. However I have never joined Prime nor want to. I checked my Amazon account and it shows that I am not a Prime member.
Of course I have contacted them to ask about this but was wondering if this is a one-off crock up or if others were affected. Oh, and check your card statements carefully!

Lloyds Credit Card Letter RE: Changing the way they calculate interest...
I've had a letter through the post (looks genuine) from Lloyds about my Lloyds Avios Duo credit card. It says...
"The way we calculate your minimum payment is changing.
From your March 2015 statement onwards the way we work out the minimum payment on your account will be changing.
The new calculation will bring you in line with the current industry standard, making it easier for you to compare credit card options in the future. So, your minimum payment will be worked out using whichever is the highest of these two options:
Balance in full if your balance is £5 or less or,
1% of your balance + interest + default fees."
At the moment my minimum payments are around £118 but I have a payment set up for £130 to come out of my bank account to pay my monthly fee which, in turn, cancels the direct debit from paying the minimum payment. BUT, my NEW minimum payment in March is quoted as being £148.90. So much for me trying to pay more than my monthly fee to help try to pay it off!
For as much as I would love to clear my debt (£5746) by overpaying each month or having a 'low % life of balance transfer', my husband is paying off his debts with help from Step Change and I am aware that his debts will reflect on my own credit rating so am doubting I would be accepted for a balance transfer.
I suppose I came here today to, firstly, see if anyone else had mentioned receiving the letter from Lloyds (or any other banking group saying the same thing) and is it genuine but secondly to see if anyone can help me understand it as I'm not sure I can.
Hope someone can help, I thought I was starting to get on top of things. :o

Halifax Clarity - Have 1, can I switch current A/C and keep it?
Hi there
I have a Halifax Clarity Credit card and must say it is great when travelling. Very favourable exchange rates and no fees.
I have read the T&C and think that I can continue to operate the card, regardless of whether I continue to hold a Halifax Ultimate Reward current account.
Seriously considering changing to Santander for the 3% and cashback offers, but don't want to do so if Halifax terminate the card.
Has anyone any first hand experience of doing this?
Many thanks
Gordon

Goods bought with Catalogue Credit - Ownership?
Hi all
I have a quick question I hope someone could help me with.
I am looking to buy a computer - but it was bought by the present owner from a catalogue using their shopping account.
Does the catalogue retain ownership of the computer until they have paid the outstanding account (there are other purchases on their account having seen the receipt)? i.e. If I go ahead and buy the computer but they default on paying - could the catalogue / debt recovery come chasing after me?!
Thanks!

Credit cards with/without mortgage
Hi All,
I would consider myself and my wife to have at least a good credit score and we have never had any issues with anything more than just a forgotten payment.
We are just in the process of buying our first house and I wondered how is the mortgage going to affect our options for the future with new cards (I have a couple that I would like to do a balance transfer etc).
What are your experiences?
I guess there is no hard set rule for this, but some info would be great.
Thanks!

Transaction refunded twice then transaction to claim back money - without notice!
I bought some concert tickets earlier in the year with my Amex card. Concert was going to be in December. However, the event has now been cancelled. Promoter has issued full refunds.
However, when I checked my statement I saw the amount refunded twice. Amount should have been £384. But there were 2 x £384 refunds.
A few days after the refunds, there is a transaction on my account which is for 384 Euros. The descripton is different to the original purchase and refunds (which are the same) but I believe it is to claw back the 2nd refund but put through in the wrong currency - however I have not been contacted and did not authorise this transaction.
After conversion and fees, there's still £60 extra refunded. Are they allowed to put a transaction through without my knowledge to claim back money?
Do I complain to Amex about the unauthorised transaction and thus alerting the concert promoter which means they may take the correct amount?
Leave it and see what happens and keep he extra £60?

Barclaycard balance transfer time limit
Hey guys,
Probably a silly questions but I'm not sure on this.
My other half opened a 33 month 0% balance transfer card last year, he made a balance transfer of £500, now; would he be able to make another balance transfer?, of course, limit allowing on the Barclaycard of course. Or is he only allowed to do this within a certain amount of time from opening the account?
Cheers! :)

Help with Virgin/Mbna Card Charges
Hi All,
I took out a balance tranfer card from Virgin about 7 Months ago and called my other cards in order to keep just the virgin one until the balance is paid off, I setup standing order top make sure I didnt miss any payment, however during the first couple of months I made payments manually but my second payment got credited to the card on the last day of the previous statment thereby causing my standing order from the following month to get credited after the minimum payment receive by date.
But I was charged £12 and thought that was the end of it, I have just casually logged on online to checkmy statement and realised I had ben charged £75 in interest , consused, I look through my other statements only to realise I had been charged going back 6 months totaling over £500.
Livid I called up Virgin, only to be told that because I had a late payment, they had cancelled my 0% rate till 2016 and now replaced it with 18.9%! but he will be happy to change that to 1.9% and also refund my last month's Interest charges but unable to back the whole 6 months.
Is there a way I can get them to refund the whole remaining 5 months charges? I know it might have been in the small prints which kind of means its my fault but nonetheless anyone know how to get Virgin to get the Charges refuned.
Thanks in advance.

Help with Nationwide charges
My statement is produced on the 22nd of every month.
My statement for 22nd October had a balance of £1982.97 which if paid by 16th November would clear the balance.
I cleared this off in full ;
These 3 payments make up the £1982.97 which was required the clear off the balance. That was me all paid off.... or so I thought!
My statement for 22nd November was produced and now has a balance of £22.15 which is simply made up of an interest charge.
I have queried this with Nationwide who have stated the following ;
I honestly do not understand what's happening. They are also stating the balance was cleared on the 17th which would rightly so miss the deadline of the 16th November. The statement also clearly shows the payment was made on the 15th.
Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

I cleared this off in full ;
- Incorrectly applied Overlimit Fee Refund ; £12 - 22nd October
- Payment of £62 ; 31st October
- Payment of £1908.97 ; 15th November
These 3 payments make up the £1982.97 which was required the clear off the balance. That was me all paid off.... or so I thought!

I have queried this with Nationwide who have stated the following ;
Quote:
Interest is charged up until the balance is paid off in full. An interest amount of £29.73 was incurred on your previous statement. As the balance was not cleared in full at this point, interest continued to be incurred until the balance was cleared. The interest on your November statement was calculated from the date your previous statement was generated, on 22 October 2014, until the balance was cleared in full on 17 November 2014 and debited on your most recent statement |

0% Balance transfer?
Hi I have received a letter from Lloyds Credit cards offering a 0% balance transfer offer for cards from other providers transferred in, however this is the only credit card I have an outstanding balance on. Does anyone know am I allowed to use my RBS card to pay this balance off and then transfer my RBS balance back onto the LLoyds enabling me to then get the 0% or are there expected loopholes designed to mean it isn't quite so simple?
Any advice extremely welcome as we need to really tighten our belts at the moment

Barclaycard - data protection
Hi
Sorry if this is the wrong board for this - but it could be of interest. Just rang Barclaycard on the 0333 number to get a replacement card as mine is damaged. Entered my card number and passcode when prompted. It says it finds my account and then I get through to an operator.
Her: Thankyou for calling Barclaycard, my name is *****, am I speaking to Mr Andrew *******?
Me: Err no.
Her: You're not Mr ********?
Me: No. I'm Mr ########
<long pause>
Her: Okaaaaaaaay. Just bear with me......
Me: I think you've got a data protection issue there
Apparently Mr ******** had called just before and the call had been disconnected but his details were still on the screen when I started talking. She had to take my details again and find my account manually.
Not good in this day and age. One for the ICO maybe?
Wonder what the next caller got. Stay alert......

Harveys are about to refund me for a manufacturing fault on a dining room table and Chairs. This table and chairs was originally purchased using a mastercard credit card some 2 years ago. This account was closed a few months later but Harveys are saying all they can do process the refund to this account and by some sort of magic i'll get a refund via cheque they are saying.

Capital One Classic Extra Credit Card Foreign Transaction Fee
I thought I would post this in case someone else was considering applying for this card and using it while they are abroad.
I applied for the Capital One Classic Extra credit card after reading Martins article on Travel credit cards: the best credit cards to use abroad which states that there is no charge for overseas spending while using the Capital One Classic Extra credit card however the Capital One Classic Extra credit card I received states "Foreign transaction fee: 2.75% of transaction value".
Has Capital started to charge new customers of their Classic Extra credit card for spending abroad?
I will still use this card for spending in the UK to get the annual £10 bonus. :money:

Hi,
I've just tried to apply for a Tesco 0% balance transfer card to pay off the balance on another card.
Tesco accepted my application without any issues and I got to the point in the application where I needed to add in the card details I wanted to transfer the balance from.
However when I entered the details it said it did not accept or could not verify that card number, so I had no choice but to cancel the application.
I've now tried to apply for another 0% card from Lloyds but I have been rejected.... could this be because Tesco did a credit check but I didn't complete the application?
If so, is there anything I can do about this?
Thanks in advance!

Paying an overdraft off with credit card?
Hi,
I have an overdraft of 1500, i have been paying some off every mont but all i'm touching is the interest. So I had the bright idea of taking out a credit card so i could pay it off and do a balance transfer to 0% card. However the balance they gave me was only £1000. I do have another card with £500 that i could transfer the balance to but then I will be paying interest on the remainder. It seems like i just can't bloody get rid of this o/d.
Also its in an old account with no inome going in/out
In short I just want to know the best way round this?
Thanks in advance

Natwest have asked me to name a figure for compensation, what should I ask for?
I recently (2 months ago) took out a new credit card with less interest and payed off my current credit on the advice of my bank. Once the first credit card had been payed off, it disappeared from my online banking list.
A few months later I received a late payment fee notice and assumed it was for my latest credit card, so I proceeded to log in online and pay that account. A few days later I received another late payment fee notice, this time I rang the bank up and they assured me this letter was sent in error. Then a month later I received another late payment fee notice and just assumed it had been sent in error, a few days after this I got a letter saying to ring them immediately about my account.
Basically I had payed the account off but they had not closed it, in this time I built up interest and incurred late payment fees, but because the account was no longer online and they had failed to carry on sending me paper statements I had no idea the account was still open, thinking it had been paid off.
Long story short Natwest have admitted it was their fault and have settled the account, and are removing the late payment markers from my credit score.
But the thing is they have offered me compensation... but asked me to name a figure...
So what should I ask for?
Bearing in mind since the late payment markers where unknowingly (to me) on my credit check, I have applied for finance and have been refused on several occasions, therefore impacting my credit score further.
