RBS PPI offer and set-off

$

Hi

I was mis-sold PPI on a CC which I defaulted on in 2004 as they refused to pay out when I was out of work. The redress was just short of £6000 (they refuse to explain how they reached this figure). The balance on the account was £11000-ish . When I checked with the CRAs in 2012 the account was marked as satisfied and the balance in January 2011 was £0.00. I was paying £10 pm until 2009 but have paid nothing since. The redress award was set-off against the outstanding balance, When I rang RBS yesterday they said that the last payment to this account was £10 in 2009. Doesn't a satisfied marker on a CRA suggest that the debt has been sold on or written off.

Using parents credit card to book flight

Hi all - we can pay outright for some tickets to Oz which we are booking direct with Singapore airlines, but it would be sensible to use a credit card for extra protection. Me and my wife got rid of our cards years ago and we don't really want to get one, so would we still be covered if we used my parents credit card to purchase tickets as they won't be in their name?

Alternatively, using our offset mortgage overdraft would be effectively buying on credit under SOGA won't it? So giving the same protection as a credit card despite it being a debit card?

TIA

Can a non-sterling credit card balance be transferred to a zero interest deal?

Hello All,

Does anyone know if there is a zero interest deal that will let me transfer a Visa debt in NZ dollars to a UK sterling card?

Thank you for any advice.

Which one to transfer?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

I currently have £8000 on 0% until November on a Barclaycard and £2500 on a 0% til next February on an MBNA card. I have just applied for an MBNA Platinum which has a BT and MT rate of 0% for 29 months. I usually pay between £300 and £400 off my cards (in total for both, not each) each month.

My limit on my new card is £6000. As the Barclaycard rate is ending the soonest so I'm guessing I should transfer 6 of that? Thinking about it now I probably should have waited for another long deal at a later date but I thought I'd try my luck.

How long does a cash advance stay on a credit rating?

Martin says to never use credit cards for cash advances as they go on your credit record but inadvertently (by using a credit card to fund an online pre-paid account) a £5 transaction appeared on my (Natwest) credit card statement as a cash advance. How long will this spend on my credit record?

What % of my cred card limit should I use?

Hiya all.

I have had a Vanquis card for two months and I have been using it to pay for petrol, and paying the balance off in full.

My limit is £150 and this month, I have racked up a balance of £120. This is totally in control as I have the money put by to pay it off. CreditExpert has dropped my score (meaningless or not) and have given the reason that I'm using too much of my allowance.

Is there a particular percentage I should be using? I was under the impression that I'd be seen as a good boy if I paid off in full, regardless of how much I owe (within the limit) Thank you!

FOS code the banks adhere to in regards to proving fraud

Hi, I have an ongoing issue with my bank HSBC who have said that I am liable for a gambling transaction that I did not authorized where a lot of money has came out of my account.

I am just wondering if anyone can quote the code the bank adhere to in regards to my situation (not assuming but PROVING) when it comes to my situation so I can include this in my appeal letter to the banks head appeal manager.

Greatly appreciated.

Debit Card issue

Hello!

First of all I'm sorry for not posting in the correct section of the forum, but I was unable to find a Debit card section and maybe I can get assistance here.
I've had some issues with a gambling website on which an account was opened under my name due to an identity theft issue. I've reported everything to the police and have had a chargeback filed. The bank provided me with provisional credit, I was unaware that the credit was provisional and received confirmation over the phone that the monies I've received were mine to use,and today I've noticed that my card has been overdrafted and the monies taken from my account. Called over to the bank and I was informed that they have received certain information from the gambling website and it was ruled that I was liable for the deposits. Couldn't get any other information because the banks fraud team wasn't within working hours and now I'm worried that I've lost my money, and because I was never informed the credit was provisional I'll be charged overdraft fees.
What can I do regarding this issue, are there any possibilities for me to recover the monies ? Also to add to my frustration, I understood from a bank representative that the information that the bank has received is the information that the bank already had, being a situation of identity theft the bank knew that the account had been opened under my address ( an old one ), and my name. The bank in question is an Irish bank, but the chargeback process is international and I've seen that there are a lot of experienced people posting on this forum.

Halifax Clarity usage abroad

Already have the card but with a low limit of £1k, rejected recently for an increase

The cash limit is 50% of my credit limit but unlike some other cards this isn't visible anywhere on the online banking

Ill be taking this card abroad and intended to put the majority of holiday spend and cash withdrawals for 2 people onto it and make ad hoc payments from my current account to keep under the credit limit whenever i get close

Customer services couldn't tell me if making an additional payment part way through the month affects the cash limit

Ie i expect to withdraw around £1500 during the holiday and would make a payment from my current account a few days after each big atm transaction, call it £500 a time for simplicity sake - after the first withdrawal of £500 would i be able to make any more assuming the £500 payment from my current account has cleared and my balance is £0

Anyone have any practical experience of this?

What things fo you still pay for with cash?

I was just thinking - I've been a credit card user for many years now, and I pay for virtully everything using plastic. Even where credit cards are not accepted, debit cards often are. I normally carry a bit of cash around with me, but I don't often spend any of it!

After a quick brainstorm, the only things I could think of that I still pay for with cash are:
  • My work canteen for small transactions (e.g. just a cup of coffee) as they only accept plastic for transactions over £2,
  • Bus fares
  • Taxi fares
  • Occasionally the "tip" in restaurants etc.
  • Sometimes tradesmen (plumbers etc.) prefer payment in cash, although even this is getting rarer now.
Everything else goes on plastic.

Just wondering if there are other things that people still use cold, hard cash on?

Stuck in overdraft loop...creditcard?

Hi all,

At the moment I seem to be stuck in an overdraft loop. I get paid, it pays the overdraft, my balance goes back to a little over zero and then I end up in it again. I usually end up about £500 overdrawn, but It's a planned overdraft, and it's repaid at the end of every month, however, this has been going on for about 5 months and I'm getting sick.

I was reading an article on here (tried to link to it but wasn't allowed) That explains, basically, to help get out of an overdraft use a 0% card for all of your spending until you are in credit in your current account, then stop using it and repay the card. Sounds like a great idea and i was planning on giving it a go, but are there any downsides other than the risk of running up more debt if I'm not careful? Damage to credit rating etc. just a bit concerned as I've never had a credit card before.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Starting to build a credit rating

Hey,

I'm new to credit ratings and such as I am only 19 although in the next few years i'll be needing to get a mortgage, finance a car and what not. So as I have a basically non-existent credit rating I'd like to start.

I was wondering, if I got a credit card and bought my weekly food shop with it, then got home and paid it off right away would this help towards my rating?

also if I was to do this I assume I wouldn't be charged interest as I am settling the balance right away?

Thank you, I hope you can help me understand

Cancelling Credit Once Clear

$

Hi All,

I've calculated that I'll be debt free by 26th May 2014 as long as nothing unexpected comes up before then.

In terms of credit cards I have the following

Barclay's Credit Card - £6K Limit
Tesco Credit Card - £4.5K Limit
HSBC Credit Card - £500 Limit
HSBC Overdraft - £1400 Limit

Once they are all paid off would you cancel them and get a new card with say 0% spending to keep your credit score up? Also would you cancel the overdraft or keep it just in case?

Goldfish/Barclaycard Rejection

Hi - I have today received a letter from Barclaycard saying they do not feel I was mis-sold PPI on my Goldfish Card (Barlaycard took over Goldfish), as I signed up by post and must have ticked the box saying I wanted PPI and therefore I had made my own decision. I was never contacted by anyone from the company checking on whether the PPI was appropriate to me (it isn't as I was covered elsewhere through work). Is this reason enough to say I was not mis-sold? Any help would be appreciated as I didn't really want to go through the Financial Ombudsman route. Thanks :j

Hi all
A few months ago, i paid a first instalment on my car insurance with my girlfriends debit card as mine was lost and waiting on it to be replaced, later that month i entered into a dispute with the company and asked for the insurance to be cancelled.
This they agreed to but demanded a charge to do the cancellation . I was about to dispute the amount they claimed but they have went ahead and took it out my gfs card as that was the details they had on file, is this allowed can she claim the money back ? Any help appreciated
