FD have made a mistake to my benefit. Do I stick or twist?

Hi all,

I wonder if you can help me with this slightly unusual situation.

I did a balance transfer to First direct about 6 years ago. The balance was paid off in full within a few months and I think I carried a nil balance on the card for a few years.

In the past two years I have used the card on and off clearing the balance at some point but the card has never incurred interest. I queried this a few times and was always informed that because I was paying in over the debit balance into other accoutns that the card didn't incur interest.

Anyway, fast forward to this year and of course I have a rather large balance (large for me). I then get a statement giving an est interest amount. I query this with First Direct and they state that there was a glitch and they will investigate it - have never seen anything like that before. I cheekily ask if they will at least allow the card to be interest free for 6 months and was told that this was a possibility but couldn't be confirmed until they finished investigating. It has now been 4 weeks.

Sooo.... my question is - should I just get a new balance transfer card now and move the entire lot? Or should I wait to see if FD will offer me something? I know it's cheeky (and possibly morally wrong) to ask for it, I certainly do not expect it but i dread to think that I move everything and then I get a 6/12 month 0% offer from FD.

I'm fairly confident that I'll get a new card once I apply - I am fairly solvent. And the card will be paid off in a few months anyway. Thats not the problem.

Anyway - any ideas? Thoughts? Do i stick or twist?
